Burnley 1-3 Newcastle United
(Premier League, Matchweek 19, Turf Moor, December 30, 2025)
Newcastle United ended 2025 with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over relegation-threatened Burnley, securing only their second away win of the season despite a strong second-half push from the hosts.

The Magpies exploded out of the blocks with a dream start:
Joelinton scored after just 65 seconds (his first Premier League goal in a year), volleying home a deflected cross from Anthony Gordon
Yoane Wissa, making his first Premier League start for Newcastle, doubled the lead in the 7th minute with a close-range finish after poor defending from Burnley.
Burnley pulled one back in the 23rd minute through Josh Laurent’s well-struck volley, giving the Clarets hope and sparking a dominant second half where they hit the crossbar, forced several saves from Nick Pope (who received a warm reception from his former fans), and created numerous chances (including efforts from Marcus Edwards and Loum Tchaouna cleared off the line or saved).
Despite the pressure, Newcastle held firm and sealed the win in stoppage time when Bruno Guimarães capitalized on a defensive mix-up, chipping the ball elegantly from 30 yards.
Key takeaways:
Newcastle showed clinical finishing early but remained fragile under pressure, extending their run without a clean sheet.
Burnley, now winless in 10 games and six points from safety, battled bravely but lacked the cutting edge, remaining second-bottom.
This result lifted Newcastle into the top half to close the year, while Burnley continue their struggle against relegation.
